Nigel Edwards, Director of player development and coaching for Golf Union Wales, said: "The short game centre at Celtic Manor Golf Resort is a wonderful facility. The Huxley professional all-weather golf surfaces are very realistic, great to play off and remain consistent irrespective of the weather or level of use. They are used for short game coaching of the Welsh Elite and Development squads as well as by individual squad members. The result can only benefit the long-term development and success of Welsh golf."
The new facility is also open to all standards of golfer, from Celtic Manor members and visiting golfers to children trying the game for the first time.
Arnold Palmer attended the official opening after being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the KPMG Golf Business Forum held at The Celtic Manor Resort from May 4-6.
"This sort of facility is very important in bringing on the next generation of golfers," said Palmer, who won seven major championships and played in six Ryder Cups.
"It's great to see as many young people as possible being given a start in the game and I hope they all enjoy their golf."
Richard White, Installation manager for Huxley Golf, was delighted to see his
golfing hero open the facility, "To see Arnold praising the tees that I installed and admiring the receptiveness of the greens was a moment I will never forget. We all worked extremely hard during the installation and I am overwhelmed with the admiration that the facility is receiving."
